Saliva is among the bands that come to mind when you think of the rock music in 2000s. It gained a lot of attention after being the promo track for WWE Survivor Series in 2002.
This song was easily Saliva’s most successful hit being number 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for a week.
It was also the anthem for heartbroken people and its one of those songs that accurately capture the very feeling of being hated and hating the person you’re deeply attached to.
The song was actually based on Scott’s girlfriend’s sister Christie who was in a physically and mentally abusive relationship.
My girlfriend’s sister Christie went through something pretty nasty with a young man she was involved with. I just took it from her life and applied it to mine.

The video for the song is amazing as well. It shows a homeless guy being delusionally in love with a woman of whom he gets weird flashbacks about at any time or place he goes. The video shows a car getting crashed onto another one as well along with other random acts of vandalism.
We had the LA Police Department block off eight blocks of downtown Los Angeles because we had to do a car crash in the video. The first day of the video, it was like 5:00 in the morning, they did this car crash. It was so awesome! I think every kid in the world would have enjoyed seeing that. It was a lot of fun.
We sort of made it like an isolated part of downtown. Sort of like Devils Advocate or Vanilla Sky where they block off a part of New York City except it was Los Angeles. It was like the city had been abandoned and this guy is looking for himself and doesn’t find himself until the end of the video. Then he realizes that people were there all along. So it’s kind of got a story to it.

The rock music from 2000-2010 era had pretty good music especially rock songs which were based on heartbreaks. This is one of those songs from that time that come to mind along with others like ‘How You Remind Me’ by Nickelback, ‘I hate everything about you’ by Three Days Grace etc.
Overall a great song in my opinion. Let me know your opinions in the comments below.
