Brendon Urie is one of the most talented singers out there. Miss Jackson by him is my favorite song. Panic at the Disco is his solo project which was originally a band consisting of members childhood friends Urie, Ryan Ross, Marks Spencer and Brent Wilson. Brendon Urie is the only member who has been there ever since the band’s inception and he is the face of the band.
Song Review and Meaning
Brendon spoke about the song saying it is based on an event that happened to him. Brendon in his young days used to have a lot of affairs. He would sleep with one girl and then would sleep with her friend the next day. He spoke about how he would mess around and not care about how they felt or how he would make them feel.
He thought about how he would react if the same happened to him and one day it did and it made him feel shi**y. So he would think about this thing a lot and it would drive him crazy in his young days.
The song is about the person although it is unclear if they know of it. They might realize it or suspect it or figure it out.
Miss Jackson’ is about something that actually happened to me when I was younger. I hadn’t really talked about it, and I felt that if I didn’t, I would keep thinking about it, it would drive me crazy. When I was younger, I would mess around; I’d sleep with one girl one night, sleep with her friend the next night, and not care about how they felt, or how I made them feel. And then it happened to me and I realized ‘Wow, that’s what that feels like? I feel really sh**y.
I knew I had to change, because I didn’t want to feel that way again, or make other people feel that way. So I wrote the song. It’s based off someone who is real, though I don’t think they would know it. They might suspect it, and if they figure it out, I’d love to talk to them about it.
Brendon Urie
Miss Jackson is a pretty good song in my opinion. It has a good hook and is quite rhythmic the way mostly Brendon’s songs are. I found the song around 4 years back and I have been hooked to the song ever since.
The music video is quite difficult to figure out. It starts off with the scene of a tyre burning on the ground. Then one finds out Brendon sitting watching himself in the mirror while he is washing blood off his hands. It could be representing a crime that he has committed. There is a woman lying on the bed.
There is a scenery of a decapitated woman and people sitting in a circle. A man is standing in the middle of it. Brendon later arrives at a similar looking scene as seen in the scenery. Brendon slices the neck of the woman and decapitates her. The other people not sure if they become dead after that or are simply having their heads down in remorse.
From what I understand from the lyrics and the meaning that Brendon talks about, Miss Jackson is the woman that Brendon is in love with. Brendon used to sleep around with women most likely leaving them for their friends. Then karma catches up to him in the form of Miss Jackson a person that does the same with him.
She sleeps around with other people while Brendon is in love with her. She acts cool thinking that no one is going to find out about it. She thinks she has the right to do all this and nothing bad can happen to her. In a way, this could be what Brendon felt about himself when he was doing the same with other people and this is what he thinks Miss Jackson(the person he is referring to as Miss Jackson)’s thought process is also like. When he says where will you be waking up tomorrow morning he is simply revealing the sl*tty nature of the person. And he realizes that he is still in love with her despite her doing this to him.
When he chops off the woman’s head he could be signifying that he wanted to do it in real life if he could. Or maybe he got over her and moved on in life.
