Cola is a song by Lana Del Rey taken from her third extended play ‘Paradise(2012)’ and the reissue of her second studio album, Born to Die: The Paradise Edition (2012).

Well, Lana Del Rey never ceases to amaze me with her melancholic feel of her songs. Her songs are usually based on dark and sinister themes. This one has controversial lyrics as well.
Lana opens the song with the lyrics ‘My p**sy tastes like Pepsi Cola’. It was inspired by her boyfriend at the time Barrie James O’Neill, former frontman of Scottish rock band ‘Kassidy’ who was talking about how American women’s p**sies taste like Pepsi Cola.
He was talking about American girls, his vision of American girls was that all their p*ssies tasted like Pepsi-Cola, and that they were such a dream. I thought that was the funniest fu–ing thing I’d ever heard. And I thought, Well … I have a Scottish boyfriend, and that’s just what he says!”

Apart from this we have Lana talking about dr*gs, parties, s*x and other things that she has been indulging in. This song specifically mentions Harvey and it was speculated to be Harvey Weinstein.
When I wrote that song, I suppose I had a Harvey Weinstein/Harry Winston-type of character in mind,” she explained. “I envisioned, like, a benevolent, diamond-bestowing-upon-starlets visual, like a Citizen Kane or something. I’m not really sure. I thought it was funny at the time, and I obviously find it really sad now. I support the women who have come forward. I think they’re really brave for doing that.

Now, personally I believe the lyrics were definitely based around Harvey Weinstein even though Lana somewhat doesn’t say it directly. Lana has spoken about sleeping with people for the sake of uplifting her career. Her connection with Harvey was pretty evident and given Harvey’s character its nearly impossible to think that they wouldn’t have had an affair.
Cola song actually exposed Harvey way before he was convicted in May 2018. Well, I believe his affairs were known to be an open secret. This song depicted his character a bit further to the audience that didn’t know about it.
From a musical point of view, we know that Lana is a genius and writes great songs. This song is definitely great to listen to. Let me know in the comments what you think of this song.
