Alizee is a French singer who is best known for her debut hit single – ‘Moi Lolita’ released in July 2000 as part of her album Gourmandises.
She was only 16 years old when she released this song and it was a huge success across Europe. The song is incredibly catchy, rhythmic and Alizee’s pleasant vocals make it a perfect song to listen to.
The lyrics are not that easy to decipher but this is my understanding of the song. The theme of the song is based around Alizee and her carefree, independent and authentic nature.
As a young girl she comes off as mischievous and irresponsible to some people but Alizee accepts herself for it. Her childlike nature and authenticity attracts a lot of attention from the crowd. She is also criticized for being the way she is but that doesn’t stop her from having fun.
The song is about celebrating one’s flaws and accepting oneself for them. The people may think of you as crazy and delusional but you should not let them bother you and do what makes you happy.
