One of the most dangerous things about emotional abuse is that it can become the norm for someone. You see emotions are addictive. We get addicted to certain emotions because they get engraved in our subconscious mind.
The subconscious mind is a paradigm. It is a multitude of habits. Habits once formed are difficult to break. The image we form of ourselves becomes difficult to break.
When we are treated a certain way by a group of people, then we begin to internalize those things. We feel like that is the way it is supposed to be and that is how we deserve to be treated.
This becomes dangerous when one is exposed to negative emotions and emotional abuse. He or she may not know it but they will start to associate that behavior with how they deserve to be treated.
As a result, these people may not be able to decipher as to whether anyone is doing wrong with them or not. In cases when they do realize these things, they are hesitant to do anything about it because these emotions become the comfort zone for them.
People with abusive partners don’t leave them because they are scared to leave them. The idea of leaving an emotionally abusive partner seems difficult to the victim because it lies outside his/her comfort zone.
We do what feels familiar to us. It is the reason why people are trapped in jobs and afraid to start their own business. It is the reason why birds living in cages don’t escape them because they find comfort inside the cage.
People who go through emotional abuses attract similar partners throughout their life because they associate love with abuse. This is the harsh fact. It is the reason why narcissists take advantage of the victim over and over again.
It is important to identify patterns in our life. It is important to know what is good for us and what we truly deserve. It is important for us to be brave enough to follow the right path and do the right thing even if it feels uncomfortable to do it.
