Life is tough. A lot of people talk about luck being a huge factor when it comes to success and seeing Dustin’s story it is actually quite true.

Dustin has beaten a lot of former UFC Champions but when it comes to winning the title against the current champion, Dustin has fallen short each and every single time.

He has won the interim Lightweight Championship. He has beaten a lot of UFC champions like Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, Anthony Pettis and Eddie Alvarez just not when they happened to be champions in the Lightweight class at the time.

This time on June 1st, Dustin is getting his shot at the championship again against Islam Makhachev who is Khabib’s pupil and an incredibly hard opponent.

This fight is going to an incredibly emotional one for Dustin and his fans because of all the ups and downs he has been through his entire journey.

Dustin has also talked about retirement after the fight with Islam.

I’m not going to climb the ladder again. I’ve been doing this a long time.

It’s a very selfish sport. I’m ready to be a father and be a husband and be home and be into a routine. I wouldn’t say I can’t do it again; I can do it again, it’s just…

This is it for me. This could be the last one. I’m still on the fence, win or lose. I just want to be content with my career. It’s a thing where I have to digest it and be okay with it [if I lose], because that’s how life goes.

Of course, I’m looking at the brighter side and trying to be positive that I’m going to finish the story and seal the deal and become undisputed lightweight champ after my 31st fight in the UFC. What a story that would be.

Dustin Poirier

I am excited to see how this fight goes on and what happens. I am rooting for Dustin and I hope he wins.
